Code Aims To Improve Air Travel For Disabled People

The UK aviation industry must focus on the needs of disabled people and work to achieve access for all, says Transport Minister John Spellar.
A new voluntary code of practice targets the needs of individuals with a disability from the moment they book their flight to their return journey home. It provides a comprehensive resource for the travel industry to follow.

Recommendations cover booking a flight, travelling to the airport and using facilities within the terminal building and on aircraft.
Accompanying the code is a guide for disabled passengers produced by Government advisers the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC).
Said John Spellar, "A lack of information and confidence are often the biggest barriers disabled people face when they travel. These documents address those issues."
