Champion profile:
Clare is 25 and works for Standard Life Direct as the manager of the Support Team. She has ridden horses for over 18 years and has a horse called Megan. Her other interests include running, travelling, reading and going to the cinema.
Clare ran the 2005 London Marathon and raised over £2,000 for the MS Society as an independent runner. She has family connections as her grandparents worked voluntarily for their local branch for many years. Clare ran the marathon in memory of her Grandfather.
Clare says that when fundraising you should give people all the details about your event, who you are fundraising for and your reasons. Showing your passion and dedication will help when asking for support whether in person or by phone, email or letter. It is also useful to give sponsor forms to your family and friends to take to their workplace as you will be surprised how many people will sponsor you. Clare gives an example of taking a collection tin in to a meeting she attended and raising £20 through just pennies. Finally, she also points out the importance of thanking everybody who sponsors you.
