30 March 2008 , Manchester
Wheel & Walk Manchester took place on the morning of Sunday 30 March. 153 participants completed the 6km route around the city centre despite the clocks having gone forward the night before.
The route took participants around the centre of Manchester, starting and finishing at Manchester Central, where MS Life was taking place. Wheel & Walk included an appearance from former professional footballer Danny Wallace, who started the event, while MS Society Chairman, Tony Kennan, welcomed the participants.
The 153 people included a fantastic 25 from the Wirral branch who turned up in fancy dress including 2 gorillas, Friar Tuck and Cruella de Vil! Top fundraisers Andrew, Joanna, Max and Will Espley won a trip to the Coronation Street set.
If you participated in Wheel & Walk, we would be delighted to have your feedback from the event. Please fill in the (External) Wheel & Walk evaluation to help us improve in future Wheel & Walks. There will be Wheel & Walk Manchester photographs on the website in the near future.
image: The first set of Wheel & Walkers at the finish line The debut year of Wheel & Walk was a great success!
The first ever Wheel & Walk took place in the stunning setting of Stourhead in Wiltshire on Saturday 12th May. It was a fantastic day, with our participants braving the showers to complete the walk!
Congratulations to Helen and Paul Phillips from Gillingham in Dorset, who were the first participants to cross the finish line!
This was followed by Wheel & Walk Nottinghamshire at Clumber Park on 2nd June. It was another fantastic event helped by glorious sunshine.
First over the finishing line were Marie and Stuart Nixon, who took part in both Wheel & Walks, with Sean Johnson. A special mention must go to David Parker, at 81 the oldest participant at Wheel & Walk.
