The MS Society has submitted a second second response to NICE on why Gilenya , the newly licensed MS pill for people with rapidly evolving RRMS, should be freely available on the NHS to people with MS who meet the criteria.
In our submission we warn NICE that if the treatment is not approved, it will leave a group of people with no effective treatment option.
Gilenya (also known as fingolimod ) was licensed in April and since then NICE has been looking at the treatment to judge whether it is 'cost effective'. Their draft response , published at the start of December, stated the treatment shouldn't be available. The final decision is expected some time in April.
We hope that NICE will continue to work with the pharmaceutical company and the Department of Health to reach a positive outcome.
